Jason Li-Shing is a flamenco guitarist based in Los Angeles, CA.
He was the guitarist of the alternative-rock band Monte Negro, who was signed to Sony BMG Music’s Epic Records in 2008, released three albums, and toured extensively around the US, Canada, and Mexico.
Jason decided to fulfill a secret dream and train as a Spanish guitarist in Granada, Spain in 2015, where he was taught deep in the gypsy caves of Sacromonte by Rafael Habichuela and Antonio “El Chonico” Heredia, both distinguished players of great historical flamenco dynasties. In 2017, he pursued further studies in Madrid, Sevilla, Córdoba, and Almería under the rich and rigorous immersion of Luis Mariano and Pepe Nuñez.
Here at home, he has studied with and played for internationally renowned flamenco artists Kai Narezo, Paco Arroyo, Linda “La Matadora” Andrade, Ryan and Alex Zermeño, Richard Chavez, Jose Tanaka, and Karina Carmen Velasco.
One of his favorite things to do is to provide classic Andalusian ambiance and mood to any special event, and simply help share and preserve the essence of this elegant yet mysterious musical tradition.
